Tommy Murphy RIP
It is with deep regret that we announced the death, on Aug 22nd 2012, of Tommy Murphy.
Tommy was an accomplished and talented broadcaster and musician. From the early days of 'pirate radio' in the 1980's, Tommy worked for a variety of stations including Alternative Radio West and Castle Radio, both based in Ballina, Westward Radio and Twin County Radio, based in Sligo. When the popular west of Ireland station, Midwest Radio, gained its licence in 1989, Tommy was chosen to present his own programme 'The Tommy Murphy Show' on Sunday mornings. In recent years he also presented a very popular music show on Midwest Radio, entitled 'Rolling Back the Years'.
Tommy was an avid music fan and a talented musician and was a drummer for many years with the legendary Jack Ruane Band and more recently with the Riverboat Jazz band in PJ Duffy's Pub in Ballina.
Tommy was predeceased by his wife Beenie and is survived by his daughters Paula and Brenda and sons Barry and Peter.
